November 11 – December 9 (4 classes)
Patañjali’s Yoga Sutras are among the most important writings of the Yoga school, and have remained relevant for 2,300 years because of their wisdom and inspiration. In this webinar course, Ravi Ravindra will explore the heart and purpose of yoga as expressed in the Yoga Sutras, with special emphasis on section 2.2 which states that the true purpose of yoga is the cultivation of Samadhi, meaning freedom from the ego-self, and the diminishing of the kleshas, that are the impediments standing in the way of achieving this goal.

Oakland Lodge Celebrates 118th Anniversary!

October 1st marked the 118th anniversary of the founding of the Theosophical Society in Oakland, the seventh oldest branch of the Theosophical Society in America, chartered by Henry S. Olcott in 1898. The two-day celebration began with a talk by Martin Leiderman, national speaker for the Theosophical Society.  His PLATO presentation was well-attended, including a group from the Turlock area and a representative from the La Honda Study Center.  The next day’s celebration began with a vegetarian/vegan potluck followed by Martin Leiderman’s four-hour workshop on the twelve Stanzas of Dzyan as found in Book II (Anthropogenesis) of The Secret Doctrine.  His insights and teaching methods were especially helpful since the lodge’s Secret Doctrine group recently began Anthropogenesis studies.
In addition to these presentations, Oakland Lodge took the opportunity to formally inaugurate a modification to its name and will henceforth be known as the Theosophical Society of the East Bay.  Needless to say, we thank all those who helped us celebrate, with special thanks to Martin Leiderman and his wife, Susan, for the light they shared, to the Theosophical Society in America for the National Speaker Program, and to the members and officers of our Lodge who pulled it all together as we continue our march into the future under the theosophical banner of brotherhood.
